The Division of Experience-Based Learning and Career Education (ECLE) serves as a fully integrated career preparation hub within the University of Cincinnati. As the global birthplace of cooperative education, the division is a recognized leader in real-world education. Within a thriving culture of collaboration, the division provides students, employers and partners a single point of contact for experience-based learning opportunities and transition-to-career services.

ELCE is the instructional home of the university's Cooperative Education Program, which for over 100 years has provided students the opportunity to alternate full-time terms of school and work to give them a solid base of experience and professional development.

In 2010, the Division launched the Academic Internship Program, which provides access to part-time internships to all UC students.

Students can also find a variety of international opportunities and services through the Division. International experiential learning encompasses academic internships, cooperative education, research, and service learning opportunities abroad. International experiential learning allows students to apply theoretical classroom knowledge in a real-world setting, enabling them to gain a better understanding of a given field in a global context.

  • The International Co-op Program (ICP) provides exciting opportunities for UC students to learn a second language and gain international experience through an overseas co-op assignment. Programs are available in Germany and Japan.
  • The International Experience Programs combine comprehensive cultural immersion with work integrated-learning. Students earn academic credit for their full-time, semester-long, academic internship or co-op. (Internships and co-op experiences are unpaid.) ELCE works collaboratively with the Academic Internship Council (AIC) and the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) to offer students personalized job placement, furnished housing, professional development, networking opportunities, cultural enrichment, recreational activities and 24-hour emergency support. Programs are available in Singapore, Hong Kong, Toronto, Cape Town, Santiago, and London.
  • Faculty-Led Study Abroad Programs within ELCE are led and organized by ELCE faculty members. These programs run once a year for two weeks in length. Students register in a course focused on professional practice and global business culture.
  • International Student Services provides supportive initiatives designed to meet the professional needs of UC International Students.
